POTTS POINT REHABILITATION
Adjacent to the El Alamein Memorial Fountain in the heart of Kings Cross this project re-invigorates a vacant ex-backpackers and shop front into a temple for mind and body. Tenants are a medical centre and yoga school.
The approach was to strip back the interiors to their timber and masonry structure while opening up the façade envelope to the sky and rear lane.
The Interwar front of the building retains the leadlight windows, decorative façade and internal joinery timberwork from that period. The more recent rear skillion addition is paired back to utilitarian studio spaces with large south-east windows looking onto Barnclueth Lane.
The central vertical circulation spine of the internal stair links all four spaces as a light-filled, ventilated, open common area giving the building a whole new lease on life.
Woke Yoga Restoration
The restoration of a dilapidated heritage building in Kings Cross attracted this yoga business to move into the upper levels, taking advantage of the high ceilings, natural light and central location in Potts Point.
